Cappadocia Winter Tour II
- Overview
- Inclusions
With the days short and access to many of the site limited, we have put together two winter programs for one to visit the highlights of Cappadocia.
The first stop of this tour will be the Göreme Open Air Museum where you will visit the many rock churches of Old Göreme. The open air museum houses some of the best preserved Christian frescoes from the 8th through to the 13th centuries. Afterward we travel past Ortahisar, with its natural underground storage and rock castle. From here we continue to Ürgüp to take a photo opportunity of the Three Beauties. Afterward we arrive in Mustafa Paşa, displaying examples of Old Greek houses. You will enjoy a local lunch before our tour winds its way past Damsa Dam with a great view of the local landscape, passing small Turkish villages like Cemil. Shortly after we arrive at Sobessos (Şahinefendi), you will enjoy a quick visit of the undergoing excavation and view the recently discovered Roman mosaics. A quick stop in Taşkinpaşa is on the itinerary. Here you can see some examples of Seljuk architecture and the preserved doorway of the Madrasah (Islamic school).
We then begin the return journey back to your hotel, first stopping at the breathtaking Sunset Point, looking down deep into the famous Rose and Red Valleys. Should guests wish a local carpet weaving demonstration will be held during this tour?
