You will be collected from your hotel at 09:00 to begin the journey to Niğde. This tour will take you back in time through the Hititte, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman eras, each and every destination has a unique story to tell.
Before we enter Niğde we will stop at Agios Vazilios Church in the village of Konakli. Built in 1844, this deserted church is thought to be the largest in Anatolia. Afterward we continue to Gümüşler Monastery. This monastery is one to rival all of those in Cappadocia, perhaps most famous for the fresco of the smiling Virgin Mary. Explore the many tunnels and chambers and walk through the gardens of this Byzantine wonder built between the 8th and 12th centuries.
The first place in Niğde to be enjoyed is the Museum, a mini Anatolian Civilizations museum if you like. This rich museum has examples from the Paleolithic Period up to the present day. Opened in 1957 fine displays of pottery, coins, tools, mummies, carpets and treasure can be viewed. Lunch in a local restaurant will be provided before we continue the remainder of the tour.
We will visit the Ak Madrasah, an Islamic school during the 14th century before climbing the citadel where you can enjoy some free time wandering the Castle and Clock Tower. Alaeddin Mosque, built in 1223, this is a fine example of Seljuk Archictecture. Walking down the hill to the centre of town we will visit a small carpet shop to see fine samples of authentic carpets and kilims that can not be found in the large sales houses. We will then make the drive back to your hotel in the afternoon.
